Our Approach

Dr. Victoria has trained extensively in providing gentle care for pregnant mothers, and both Dr. Victoria and Dr. Robert are certified in the Webster Technique. This very specific analysis addresses the sacrum, pelvis and surrounding soft tissue structures to improve their function. If found misaligned, causing abnormal nerve function (vertebral subluxation), an adjustment is delivered to reduce the effects of subluxation and sacro-iliac joint dysfunction.

This adjustment has been shown to improve neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother, called dystocia. This can be caused by inadequate uterine function, weak or absent pelvic contraction, and/or the baby being in a less-than-ideal position. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all these causes of dystocia.

Improving Nervous System Function

The nervous system coordinates and controls all systems in the body, including the intricate hormonal system responsible for starting and ending the labor process. That’s why it is important to ensure that there are as few interruptions in communication between the brain and the body, processing the development of new life as possible.

When we work with a pregnant mama, our focus is on impacting the function of her body. Lots of women experience improvement in energy levels and their quality of sleep after an adjustment; others find relief from low back and/or hip pain; some find it easier to stand up straight, which allows them to take a deep breath. WHEW!

When there is proper nerve flow between the brain and reproductive organs, and when the pelvis is moving properly, some women have reported resolution of breech presentation. Of course, nothing we do moves the baby, but we can help get your brain and body communicating, so your baby can do what they’re supposed to do—naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it recommended to go to a chiropractor while pregnant?
Absolutely! Chiropractors trained in the intricacies of pregnancy are well-equipped to help pregnant mothers adapt to the constant changes their bodies experience while they’re creating a new life! The umbilical cord is more than just blood and nutrients – it’s the power cord from mom’s body to the baby’s!

Does insurance cover chiropractic during pregnancy?

Many insurance companies only cover chiropractic care when pain is present – which may be the case during pregnancy. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not focus on optimal function or true wellness. At our office, we have chosen not to accept insurance because the goals we have for our clients are greater than the limitations placed on them by their insurance companies!

Can I lay on my stomach at the chiropractor while pregnant?

YES! We have pillows designed specifically to support your body as your baby (and belly!) continues to grow! We’ve had lots of moms ask if we rent the pillows and tables during lunch so they can take a nap on their bellies they’re so comfortable!

How soon after giving birth can I see a chiropractor?

As soon as you feel ready! Your body goes through a LOT of stress and change before, during, AND after birth so it’s important to be sure the brain and body are talking to each other as efficiently as possible as soon as possible.
How often should I see a chiropractor during pregnancy?
This question is tough to answer because every woman’s body is different. We’ve all gone through different experiences in our lives that cause stresses and tension patterns to develop uniquely.

How can I decompress my lower back during pregnancy?

Caution is advised when decompressing the lower back during pregnancy. As the baby (and belly) grow, a woman’s center of gravity shifts from (ideally) directly over the pelvis to in front of the pelvis.

What is the Webster method in pregnancy?

The Webster technique was developed “for laboring women to help with the ease of birth.” The nervous system is responsible for the control and coordination of all functions in the body – including the series of events that need to occur for a natural birth to progress.
